My name is Tom and I'm an audio engineer based in Melbourne. I started recording music in high-school when I got my first recording interface. It the best toy for a teenager, and so my path began. I moved to Melbourne during the 'digital recording revolution' to study Technical Production at RMIT and felt like a drop in an ocean of audio engineers. I met students that worked for free, high budget studios and starving musicians that would DIY. It didn't take me long to realise there was no middle ground. No accessibility for emerging artists. After much contemplation I developed the concept you see here now; a steady bridge between the budget home recorder and the big time studios.
I started TomTom Recordings in 2012, operating as a Portable Recording Studio. Over the years I have collected a range of industry-standard recording equipment, configured to be easily transported. Without the overheads of renting a space, I'm able to operate at affordable rates that appeal to the numerous emerging artists around Melbourne whilst providing professional results. I'm based in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, where there is access to a variety of rehearsal rooms suitable for recordings to take place.
Throughout my years of being an audio engineer, I have built a strong knowledge of acoustic treatment and the priorities a of home studio setup. After trialling a number of designs, I now offer a range of professional acoustic treatment products that are suitable for a variety of applications. You can purchase them through the 'Products' tab.
